Eric Williams, Sheriff Emeritus

Sheriff Eric Williams attended college at Indiana State University Evansville (ISUE) which would later come to be known as the University of Southern Indiana (USI). While at USI he served as President of his college fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma, and was also appointed by Indiana Governor Robert Orr to serve as the first student trustee for the newly created University of Southern Indiana. Sheriff Williams graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business. Sheriff Williams was with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office for over twenty (20) years and has held every merit rank possible including appointments as Chief Deputy for eight years under former Sheriff Brad Ellsworth. He was elected Sheriff of Vanderburgh County in 2007 and retired in May of 2014 to take a position with Old National Bank. Sheriff Williams is a current member and Past President of the Board of Directors for Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana, board member for the Red Cross, current board member and Past President of Leadership Evansville, board member for Albion Fellows Bacon Center, a board member for Marian Education Outreach, a board member for the University of Southern Indiana Foundation, a former board member for the Southern Indiana Higher Education Foundation and many others. Sheriff Williams is a member of St James Catholic Church where his children attend. Sheriff Williams spends a lot of his free time volunteering for a number of non-profit charities from around the tri-state area. Sheriff Williams has received numerous personal awards as well as awards on behalf of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

A technocrat in the best sense of the word, Sheriff Williams understood the immense benefits of leveraging modern law enforcement technology with the power of informatics. Sheriff Williams’ technical expertise and leadership skills will undoubtedly serve him well in all his future endeavors. The systems, procedures and common sense ways of doing business that Sheriff Williams instituted will inform Sheriff’s Office operations for decades to come
