Lieutenant Matt Schnell

Lieutenant Matt Schnell was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. Lt. Schnell graduated from Mater Dei High School. From there he attended Indiana University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Also, while attending Indiana University, Lt. Schnell completed the Indiana University Police Academy, becoming a certified Law Enforcement Officer in the state of Indiana. After graduation, he was hired as a full-time Officer with the Indiana University Police Department where he worked second shift. In November of 2002 Lt. Schnell was appointed as a Deputy with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. Lt. Schnell spent 5 years assigned to motor patrol where he became a Field Training Deputy in late 2005. In early 2007 Lt. Schnell was assigned to the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Joint Drug Task force. In November of 2009 Lt. Schnell was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. During his time as a Sergeant he primarily supervised second shift Motor Patrol. In January of 2016 Lt. Schnell was reassigned from Motor Patrol to the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Joint Drug Task Force, where he served as a Sergeant over investigations. In October of 2016 Lt. Schnell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Lt. Schnell is currently assigned to the Confinement Division and is the third shift Assistant Commander at the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center. Lt. Schnell takes great pride in being a member of the Sheriff’s Office and seeing several Deputies that he trained or supervised go on to become excellent Deputies and leaders. When not working he enjoys spending time with his family.
