Lt. Colonel John H. Strange III

Lt. Colonel John H. Strange III was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana where he attended Harrison High School. After high school, Lt. Colonel Strange attended the University of Evansville and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He later attended Indiana State University and in 1990 he earned his Master’s Degree in Criminology. In 1982, Lt. Colonel Strange served as an intern with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and later became a Reserve Deputy in 1985. Lt. Colonel Strange was hired as a Deputy in 1986. He has held the rank of Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major and now serves as a Lt. Colonel.

Lt. Colonel Strange is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Lt. Colonel Strange is a member and alumnus of Leadership Evansville. Lt. Colonel Strange is a member of the Ivy Tech Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, and Human Services Advisory Board, member of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association and National Sheriffs’ Association, member of the FBI National Academy Association, member of the ILEETA (International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association). In addition, Lt. Colonel Strange has been an active volunteer for the Santa Clothes Club. Lt. Colonel Strange is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Evansville. Lt. Colonel Strange is most proud of the quality of our personnel and the positive reputation the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office enjoys in our community.
