Communicating with Inmates
Inmates may send and receive letters from outside of the jail.
To send mail to an inmate, address the envelope to:
Vanderburgh County Detention Center
C/O “Inmate Name”
PO Box 76550
Highland Heights, KY 41076
Attorneys must email jailcommand@vanderburghsheriff.org to set up an account in order to send legal mail to inmates in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Homemade cards are not accepted. We do not accept anything with crayon or marker. Store-bought cards are acceptable provided that they don’t have glitter or any electronic music inserts. Most standard envelope sizes are accepted up to 8 ½ x 11. Care packages are not allowed. Photographs 5” x 7” or under are accepted. No nudity is allowed. Clippings from magazines and newspapers are not allowed.
Self-addressed envelopes are not allowed. Inmates must purchase pre-stamped envelopes from our commissary. If the inmate is indigent, stamped envelopes will be provided.
Money orders, cash, or checks may not be mailed to an inmate. Money may be deposited to an inmate’s commissary account via the KIOSK system located in the jail lobby (available 24 hours a day), or by visiting jailfunds.com.
If an inmate receives an unacceptable item, the item will be placed into the inmate’s property rack and the inmate will receive a form advising them of such.
