Earlier this month, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Red Cross and the University of Southern Indiana nursing program to provide “hands only” CPR instruction to interested individuals incarcerated in the jail.
Some incarcerated individuals are more vulnerable to possible medical emergencies due to substance abuse issues. This volunteer opportunity provided both men and women with lifesaving skills that can immediately be utilized in an emergency situation.
Four classes were offered, with a total of 60 participants learning and demonstrating the “hands only” CPR technique. Due to the high level of interest, future dates for training are already being planned.
