SUBJECT: Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Two Vehicle Crash

On 11/03/22, at approximately 1435hrs, Vanderburgh County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to St Joseph Avenue and Allens Lane in reference to a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Through witness statements and video surveillance, it was found that a silver 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe was stopped in traffic on southbound St. Joseph Avenue at Allens Lane. While stopped, a silver 2009 Dodge Journey, collided with the rear end of the Hyundai at an elevated rate of speed. The collision severely damaged both vehicles.
The driver of the Hyundai was a 62 year old male who was transported to Deaconess for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Journey was a 51 year old male who was transported to Deaconess for life-threatening injuries. The 51 year old later died at Deaconess Hospital.
Alcohol is not suspected a factor; however, the Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by fire and medical personnel from German Township, McCutchanville, Scott Township, and American Medical Response.
