On October 06, 2023 the United States Marshal Regional Task Force, comprised of United States Deputy Marshal’s, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Evansville Police Department Officers, and Indiana State Police Troopers, developed information that Johnathan Torell Kelly may be in the Evansville area. Kelly had an active felony warrant from Allendale, South Carolina for Murder, Kidnapping, Possession of a Weapon during a violent crime and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Through further investigation, the USMS Task Force located Kelly in a residence in the 2500 Block of Pollack Avenue.
The Evansville Police Department’s SWAT team was contacted and responded to the scene. At approximately 10:20 PM on Friday, Kelly surrendered to the SWAT team without incident and was taken into custody. Kelly is lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail awaiting extradition back to South Carolina. All inquiries into Kelly’s original alleged crimes should be made to the Allendale Police Department, Allendale, South Carolina.
