The United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 5 certification trials were held last week, bringing together 25 K9 teams from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

During the trials, Vanderburgh County Jail Officer Austin Jones and his K9 partner, Jaeger, earned first place in narcotic detection. This phase of the competition tests teams on their ability to locate narcotics during room and vehicle searches. The narcotic odors evaluated in the certification include cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

The USPCA certification trials are a rigorous test of skill, discipline, and teamwork between handlers and their canine partners. Achieving top placement highlights Officer Jones and K9 Jaeger’s exceptional training and effectiveness in combating illegal drugs in the community.
