Criminalizing homelessness is not a solution. It places unnecessary burdens on law enforcement, strains limited jail resources, and makes it harder for vulnerable Hoosiers to regain stability.
Instead, we support practical, compassionate solutions, like expanding involuntary detainers to involve trained mental health professionals, so public safety and human dignity are both protected.
Jails are for public safety risks, not for individuals facing hardship.
