DATE: Saturday, May 09, 2015
SUBJECT: Arrest Made In Overnight Home Invasion
RELEASE NUMBER: 2015-NR-029
CONTACT: Lieutenant Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Saturday, May 09, 2015 at 3:09am the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a home invasion burglary in the 10,000 block of Oglesby Drive off of Orchard Road.

The residents reported that a man in dark clothing wearing a “head lamp” had been inside their home burglarizing an occupied bedroom. The burglar reportedly fled the home when confronted and was chased outside by one of the residents. The residents provided the Sheriff’s Office with a description of a suspicious vehicle they observed in the area after the burglar fled. The residents also reported the burglar left behind an “AK-47” type rifle inside the home.

Responding sheriff’s deputies and assisting Evansville Police officers set up a perimeter while a sheriff’s K-9 searched the area. A police officer then conducted a traffic stop on First Avenue south of W. Campground Road on a white 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that a sheriff’s deputy had earlier identified as having been in the area of the burglary. One of the residents of the home that was burglarized was brought to the scene of the traffic stop and positively identified the passenger as the burglar.

18-year-old Alexander Mark Toelle was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Command Post. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Elizabeth Daugherty, was also transported to the command post.

The “AK-47” type rifle recovered at the scene was actually realistic looking plastic replica.
