Sheriff’s Office attends Safe Kids event

On Friday, September 05, 2014 the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office attended Safe Kids Safety Day for Grandparents at Eastland Mall. Sponsored by St. Mary’s Health System and Safe Kids of Vanderburgh and Warrick County, the event featured displays and presentations related to child safety.

The Evansville Police Department fitted children with free bicycle helmets provided by Safe Kids. Representatives from St. Mary’s Health System demonstrated proper car seat use and gave presentations on all-terrain vehicle safety, firearms storage safety, child-vehicle back over risks and child-vehicle entrapment. Community Coordinated Child Care of Southern Indiana brought a crib safety demonstration and answered questions about sleep related causes of infant death.

The Sheriff’s Office gave a “Don’t Text and Drive” multimedia presentation focusing on the dangers of texting and driving and distracted driving. Sheriff Dave Wedding was on hand to answer questions regarding our traffic safety programs. Sheriff Wedding stated, “Our thanks to St. Mary’s Hospital for inviting us to partner with them. Today’s event demonstrated how grandparents can help keep their grandkids safe when traveling and also encourage their older grandchildren to be responsible drivers.”
