RELEASE NUMBER: 2014-NR-065

AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

Want to connect with the Sheriff’s Office on your iPhone? We have a “VCSO” app for that.

Today, Sheriff Dave Wedding announced the official launch of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office iPhone application. “Our app is now available for immediate download on Apple iTunes”, stated Sheriff Wedding. “This new mobile application will keep you informed of latest Sheriff’s Office news and emergency alerts wherever you are.”

The VCSO App features include the ability to quickly access the Sheriff’s Office most wanted review, booking records feed, and public safety information. The VCSO app also allows you to submit crime tips, as well as attach pictures from your phone’s camera. Plus, the app lets you connect to recent report feeds, search answers to FAQs, and gives you access to the VCSO phone numbers with the push of a button.

Sheriff Wedding stated, “This app is just the beginning. Exciting upgrades are already in production, including an Android compatible version.”

Since the unveiling of our new website (www.vanderburghsheriff.org) last October, the Sheriff’s Office has racked up some impressive numbers:

  • 29,896 average unique viewers per month
  • 398,562 average sessions per month
  • Average session duration is 3:59 minutes
  • 80+ FAQ’s on site, with more added each month
  • 387+ crime tips submitted since 1/21/2014
  • 253+ requests for reports and other documents.

According to Google Analytics data captured to date, 65% of website traffic comes from mobile and tablet devices (with 41.22% of those devices being iOS devices). Sheriff Wedding commented, “Based on the popularity of the mobile web platform, we and our partners at EXTEND GROUP decided that a native mobile application capable of streamlining the content of our website would be of significant value to the community.”

Additional features that will be rolled out in the future will include, but are not limited to, push notification of news and alerts along with user selectable geo-tagging of submitted tips and photos.

The app requires iOS 7.1 or greater and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Click Here to download the app.
