AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
On Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 5:31pm the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Evansville Police Department, and Evansville Fire Department responded to a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles on I-69 north of Lynch Road.
Investigating deputies found a total of seven (7) vehicle crashed in the southbound lanes of I-69. The sequence of crashes began when a midsize pickup truck struck a deer in the southbound lanes. The crash caused the vehicle to lose all power and become unable to activate its hazard lights. Without that warning for approaching traffic, the pickup was struck from behind causing a pile up that damaged seven vehicles in all.
The crash caused mostly minor injuries, although two motorists were transported to the hospital for medical examination. Southbound traffic was restricted to one lane for about thirty minutes during clean up. A total of five cars were towed from the scene.
