AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at approximately 5:50 PM sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2200 Block of South Red Bank Road in reference to an assault in progress. Upon arrival the victim told deputies that her landlord, Mr. Ryan Matthew Hart, had physically assaulted her and attempted to confine her inside of her residence by boarding up the doors. The victim explained she was able to escape the residence through a cellar door and flee to a neighbor who contacted 911.
Sheriff’s deputies then went to Hart’s residence, located nearby in the 2300 block of South Red Bank Road. Due to Hart reportedly being armed, and the serious nature of the accusations against him, sheriff’s deputies utilized the Sheriff’s Office Armored Rescue Vehicle to approach the house and communicate with the occupants.
Sheriff’s deputies learned that multiple juveniles were at residence. The adult guardian inside the home would not cooperate with the Sheriff’s Office, despite speaking with negotiators for over an hour. Sheriff’s deputies were unable to determine if Hart was still inside the residence at the time. The decision was made to leave the residence in order to de-escalate the situation and request an arrest warrant through the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office later obtained a judicially authorized arrest warrant for Hart. Charges included Criminal Confinement as a Level 6 Felony and Battery as a Misdemeanor. The warrant was given to sheriff’s deputies assigned to the United States Marshal’s Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The task force is comprised of not only sheriff’s deputies from Vanderburgh County, but troopers from the Indiana State Police and regular United States Marshals.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024 Task Force members located Hart on his property and he was taken into custody without incident.
