SUBJECT: 3-vehicle crash leads to OMVWI Arrest

On Tuesday, March 12th, 2024 at 6:36PM, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies, Evansville Firefighters, and AMR Medics were dispatched to the area of I-69 over S. Weinbach Av for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Dispatch had received numerous calls reporting that one of the involved vehicles was on fire.
Deputies arrived on scene and located three vehicles involved in the crash, one of which was fully engulfed in fire in the median, along with a witness. Evansville Firefighters extinguished the fire while Deputies quickly determined that all occupants were out of the vehicles and only minor injuries were reported.
A preliminary investigation into the crash indicated a gold 2003 Volva S60, driven by Asia Mariana Tomich, was traveling North on I-69, over S. Weinbach Av, when it rear-ended a black 2015 Honda Civic, then struck a red 2018 Kia Stinger before striking a guardrail. While speaking with Ms. Tomich, Deputies observed indicators indicating that she was impaired.
Deputies administered standardized field sobriety tests to Ms. Tomich, which she failed. Ms. Tomich submitted to a portable breath test which indicated her BrAC was .188. Ms. Tomich was read the Indiana Implied Consent Warning and agreed to submit to a chemical test, the results of which are pending. A search incident to arrest revealed that Ms. Tomich had a numerous pills that are controlled substances hidden on her person.
This crash resulted in the temporary closure of the Northbound lanes of I-69 for a little over an hour.

Charges: OMVWI-Endangerment as a Class A Misdemeanor, OMVWI as a Class C Misdemeanor, NARC-Possession of SCH I, II, III, IV as a L6 Felony
