CONTACT: Major Matt Corn
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson

On Thursday, April 25th, 2024 at 9:33 PM, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the McCutchanville Fire Department, the Evansville Fire Department, and AMR Paramedics, responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries on SR 66 (W. Diamond Av) between N. Saint Joseph Av. and Fulton Av.

Upon arrival, Deputies located a damaged bicycle along with a subject that had sustained life threatening injuries lying in the median near W. Diamond Av over Grove St. Emergency lifesaving measures were attempted, however, the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Once it was determined that one of the involved subjects had succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigation Section, an agency Crash Reconstructionist, and the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office were requested to respond to the scene of the crash.

A preliminary investigation into the incident indicated that a silver 2017 Lexus ES 350 was traveling East on W. Diamond Av, over Grove St, when the driver abruptly struck an object in the roadway, later determined to be a bicyclists/pedalcyclist. The motorist was later transported to a local hospital for a chemical test in accordance with Indiana law regarding fatal and serious bodily injury crashes. The results of the chemical test are pending, however, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time.

This section of Diamond Avenue was closed for nearly two hours while the crash scene was reconstructed. The crash investigation for this incident is ongoing and the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased at a later time after the appropriate notifications have been made.
