The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will increase patrols during the Thanksgiving travel period as part of the Safe Family Travel campaign, starting November 16. The campaign focuses on curbing impaired and aggressive driving, enforcing seat belt use, and includes sobriety checkpoints funded by NHTSA grants through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI).
With Thanksgiving Eve often associated with high rates of drinking, drivers are urged to plan for a sober ride if they intend to drink. ICJI officials also remind motorists to slow down, avoid distractions, buckle up, and check road conditions to ensure safe travels.
“If you plan to drink, ensure you also plan your way home,” said Sheriff Noah Robinson. “Secure a sober ride in advance so you can enjoy your evening without concern for transportation afterward.”
