SUBJECT: Overturned Garbage Truck Leaves One Injured
RELEASE NUMBER: 2020-NR-023
CONTACT: Major Mark Rasure / Sergeant Brandon Harrison
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

Around 09:30 this morning Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of State Road 57 north of Kansas Road to assist with a driver trapped inside of an overturned trash truck. Emergency responders from the McCutchanville Fire Department and Scott Township Fire Department worked to extricate the lone occupant from the vehicle. Investigating deputies interviewed a witness and discovered that the garbage truck’s right tire drifted off the edge of the roadway causing the driver to overcorrect before traveling across the southbound lane. The sudden shifting of the truck’s contents caused the vehicle to roll over onto its side.

The driver of the truck was taken to Deaconess Mid-town Hospital by ambulance for what are believed to be serious injuries. The specific nature of the injuries is unknown; however, the investigation by the Sheriff’s Office is ongoing. Both lanes of SR 57, between Kansas Road and Boonville-New Harmony Road, were closed for several hours while recovery services cleaned the area of trash and removed the disabled truck.
