SUBJECT: Armed Felon Arrested After Foot Pursuit

On May 31, 2025, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to use a turn signal at the intersection of South Governor Street and Bellemeade Avenue. The driver complied and pulled over near the same location.
During the stop, a passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Cameron Lee Banks, fled on foot. Deputies pursued Banks while issuing verbal commands for him to stop. During the pursuit, a deputy observed Banks discard a handgun. At one point, Banks tripped and fell, sustaining minor injuries but continued to flee. The deputy attempted to deploy a Taser, but it was ineffective. Banks was eventually apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.
An Evansville Police Department K9 team responded and located the discarded firearm, which was later confirmed to have been reported stolen. Banks, who has a prior felony conviction, is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. A search of Banks’ property also led to the discovery of approximately 0.27 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
