RELEASE NUMBER: 2024-NR-1218
CONTACT: Major Matt Corn
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
On Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 at approximately 10:42pm, Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies were patrolling the area of N Tenth Av and Delaware St when a vehicle was observed failing to dim it’s headlights. Deputies then observed the vehicle disregard a stop sign and fail to use it’s turn signal. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop for those violations, however, the suspect vehicle failed to stop and began to flee. Shortly after fleeing, the suspect vehicle suffered a flat tire. The pursuit speeds ranged from 20-35 mph, however, as the suspect vehicle’s speed increased to nearly 80 mph and the suspect disregarded a red traffic signal, Deputies chose to terminate the pursuit for safety reasons.
An Evansville Police Officer, who was in the area of N. Kentucky Av and Keck Av, located the disabled vehicle and the suspect running from it. He, along with an Indiana State Police Trooper, successfully took the suspect into custody without further incident.
The suspect, identified as Aiden Jayce Poiles, was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
