Deputies Investigating Fatal Crash on St. Joseph Ave.

On June 16, 2025, at approximately 3:25 p.m., Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 9700 block of St. Joseph Avenue, just north of Wimberg Road, in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, deputies located a gray GMC SUV with significant front-end damage off the west side of the roadway. A white Freightliner box truck was found overturned and blocking the roadway.

Preliminary investigation indicates the box truck was traveling northbound on St. Joseph Avenue when it left the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, crossing into the southbound lane and colliding with the GMC SUV.

The SUV was occupied by an adult female driver and a small child secured in a car seat. Tragically, the female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local Hospital for treatment.

The Vanderburgh County Coroners Office will release the name of the deceased at a later time.

The driver of the box truck, In accordance with Indiana law, submitted to a chemical test following the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
