SUBJECT: Deputies Investigating Early Morning Fatal Crash

On April 14, 2023, deputies were dispatched at 3:25 AM to the area of US 41 and Baseline Rd in reference to a report of a two vehicle, head on collision, which occurred in the SB lanes of N US Hwy 41. Upon arriving, deputies found both vehicles had heavy front end damage.
It was determined during the initial investigation that one of the involved vehicles matched the description of an earlier “Be on The Lookout (BOL)” for a wrong way vehicle that was reportedly traveling NB in the SB lanes of N US Hwy 41, near Baseline Rd. This BOL was received about one minute prior to Central Dispatch receiving information that a crash had just occurred.
Once it was determined that one of the involved drivers had succumbed to injuries sustain in the crash, the Vanderburgh Co Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section, an agency Crash Reconstructionist, and the Vanderburgh Co Coroner’s Office were requested to respond to the scene of the crash. The other involved driver, who sustained serious injuries, was transported to a local emergency room for advanced life saving procedures and toxicology testing in accordance with state law. The name and ages of the involved drivers are being withheld as this time until the proper notifications can be made. Additionally, the Vanderburgh Co. Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased driver at a later time.
