Deputy Tony Toopes Receives Government and Public Service Award

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Toopes received an award tonight at Leadership Evansville’s 20th annual Celebration of Leadership.

Deputy Toopes was presented with the Government and Public Service Award in recognition of his efforts in establishing the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Peer Support Team. The peer support team provides assistance to sheriff’s deputies and confinement officers by providing emotional, social, and practical support during times of personal or professional crisis.

“I was shocked,” said Deputy Toopes, “I thought it was an honor just to be nominated and attend the ceremony, let alone win an award.”

Sheriff Dave Wedding offered his congratulations, “Deputy Toopes is the kind of person who thinks of others before he thinks of himself. Thanks to his efforts, the members of our office now have another resource to rely upon in their time of need. ”

Deputy Toopes has been with the Sheriff’s Office for four years. He is currently assigned to Field Operations (Motor Patrol) on relief shift where he is a Field Training Deputy.

Leadership Evansville was founded in 1976 with the mission to develop effective local leaders committed to using diversity and creativity for the betterment of the community.
