DATE: July 30, 2025
SUBJECT: DUI Checkpoint Warning: Sobriety Checkpoint Planned Thursday, July 31st
RELEASE NUMBER: 2025-NR-0730
CONTACT: Lt. Erik Nilssen
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

Law enforcement officers from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Evansville Police Department, Indiana State Police, and Indiana State Excise Police will join forces as part of a statewide initiative to identify and deter impaired driving.

The checkpoint location was selected based on traffic crash data collected during the first half of 2025. Analysis revealed several areas within Vanderburgh County with a disproportionately high number of hit-and-run crashes, many of which are suspected to involve impaired drivers attempting to flee the scene. The checkpoint will be set up in one of these high-risk areas.

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership conducts sobriety checkpoints regularly to detect and deter impaired driving and to help reduce alcohol- and drug-related crashes on local roadways.

Funding for this operation is provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The results of the planned DUI checkpoint will be released the following day, on Friday, August 1st.
