The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Evansville man in connection with the theft of multiple firearms and cash from a relative’s residence. Erron Scott Huckleberry, 45, was taken into custody in Marion, KY, on a warrant charging him with three counts of felony theft. Several search warrants were also executed in Evansville and Kentucky as part of the ongoing investigation.
The theft was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on January 26 after the victim’s relatives discovered that a safe containing multiple rifles, handguns, ammunition, and a large sum of cash had been stolen. The victim had been hospitalized for an extended period due to illness, during which time Huckleberry, who had access to the residence, allegedly stole the safe.
With assistance from deputies assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the ATF Task Force, and the Joint Narcotics Task Force (JTF), detectives launched an investigation and attempted to locate Huckleberry. Flock safety cameras provided valuable information regarding vehicle movements associated with him.
Detectives established probable cause to obtain a felony theft warrant, and locations in Evansville, Orange County, and Kentucky were searched. On January 29, Huckleberry was located and arrested in Marion, KY, by deputies assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force. Search warrants were subsequently executed at an Evansville residence, a separate vehicle in Evansville, and two vehicles found with Huckleberry in Marion, KY. The searches resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms, ammunition, cash, and stolen personal items.
During an interview in Marion, KY, Huckleberry confessed to the thefts and stated that he had destroyed the stolen safe. Huckleberry was initially housed in the Crittenden County Jail, but after waiving extradition, he was transported back to Vanderburgh County today and booked on the below charges. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional felony charges and potential arrests are expected.
