DATE: June 25, 2025
SUBJECT: Felon Arrested for Possession of Firearm
RELEASE NUMBER: 2025-NR-0625
CONTACT: Lt. Matt Schenll
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
Detectives with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force received multiple anonymous complaints alleging that Joe Lewis Moore III was involved in the sale of narcotics. On May 31, 2024, Moore was sentenced to Electronic Home Detention by the Vanderburgh County Circuit Court for multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. As a condition of his detention agreement, Moore is required to submit to home searches by law enforcement upon request.
On June 24, 2025, deputies and residential officers assigned to the Electronic Home Detention Program, with assistance from the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force, conducted a search of Moore’s residence, as well as a vehicle in which Moore and a female companion had arrived at the Vanderburgh County Community Corrections Complex.
During the search of the vehicle, deputies located a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun in the glove compartment. At Moore’s residence, detectives discovered an unloaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun in a bedroom shared by Moore and his companion. Although Moore’s companion claimed ownership of both firearms, investigators believe Moore had access to, and exercised possession of, both weapons.
Due to his status as a convicted felon, Moore is prohibited from possessing firearms. He was taken into custody and transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
