Friday, August 28, 2015 Sobriety Checkpoint Results

The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, August 28, 2015 at East Morgan Avenue and Theater Drive. The checkpoint ran from 11:30pm to just after 2:30am.

A total of 68 vehicles were diverted from East Morgan Avenue into the checkpoint. One motorist was arrested for Driving while License Suspended with a Prior Conviction. Another motorist was arrested for Opertating while Intoxicated. One motorist tested close to the legal limit and was required to obtain alternate transportation.

While our local sheriff’s deputies and police officers were preparing for this checkpoint, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Texas was investigating the murder of one of their own. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of this deputy and to the entire Texas law enforcement community”, said Sheriff Dave Wedding. He added, “These are trying times for law enforcement; with sheriff’s deputies, police officers and state troopers being targeting for no other reason than the uniform they wear.”

Funding for local sobriety checkpoint operations is provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
