The Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office have received numerous media inquires and calls from concerned citizens regarding US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in the area.
Our respective agencies were informed in advance that ICE would be conducting Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in the Evansville and Vanderburgh County Area today.
While we support the lawful mission of ICE, the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office did not assist in this operation and do not participate in general immigration enforcement, except in cases where an individual has committed a criminal offense unrelated to their immigration status.
