Today, Sheriff Dave Wedding notified Sgt. Darren Baumberger of his intent to seek his dismissal from the Sheriff’s Office. The Vanderburgh County Sheriff Merit Board will hold a public hearing to consider the formal charges on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., in Room 301 of the Civic Center Complex in Evansville, Indiana.
The Notice of Charges (which lists the specific allegations against Sgt. Baumberger) is available online at vanderburghsheriff.org.
During the course of the recent internal investigation into Sgt. Baumberger’s conduct, information was discovered that suggested past criminal behavior on his part. This information concerns a series of incidents unrelated to the current case in which Sgt. Baumberger’s dismissal is being sought.
On Thursday, June 05, 2014, Sheriff Dave Wedding met with Indiana State Police investigators to brief them regarding these recently discovered criminal allegations concerning Sgt. Baumberger. At Sheriff Wedding’s request, the Indiana State Police agreed to investigate the matter.
