On June 12, 2014, at approximately 8:00 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of Westbrook Drive for a fight in progress. The victim called 911 to report her former boyfriend, Khiry Burton, arrived at her home unannounced armed with a knife. Deputies arrived within 5 minutes of the 911 call.
The victim told responding deputies that Burton entered the home through an unlocked window in the front of the home. Another male in the home walked into the living room from the master bedroom and observed Burton sitting on the couch holding a knife. He ran back to the bedroom and alerted the female victim. She was in bed with her 2 year old son when Burton entered the room with a kitchen knife. According to the victim, Burton told them to sit on the bed and no one was leaving. A fight then ensued between the male victim and Burton. Burton ran out of the home leaving the knife behind.
Sheriff’s deputies and officers from the Evansville Police Department set up a perimeter and searched for Burton without success. At approximately 11:15 a.m. a neighbor called deputies back to the address on Westbrook Drive because they observed a male in the area matching Burton’s description. He was taken into custody after being found hiding under a mobile home.
