Sheriff’s Command Post Operating Hours to Change

DATE: Wednesday, July 09, 2014
SUBJECT: Command Post Operating Hours
RELEASE NUMBER: 2014-NR-057
CONTACT: Lt. Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

Effective Friday, July 11, 2014 the public reception area of the Sheriff’s Command Post at 5607 N. US Hwy 41 will transition to the following operating hours:

  • Monday – Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm
  • Closed on Saturday, Sunday and all county observed holidays

The Command Post contains the Field Operations Division, which is comprised primarily of the Patrol Section and the Criminal Investigation Section. The Sheriff’s Office remains a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation. Only the public reception area of the Command Post is affected by this change.

An analysis of visitor patterns at the Command Post led to the conclusion that staffing the public reception area after normal business hours was not the most efficient use of personnel. This change will allow more Sheriff’s deputies to be on patrol at night and during the weekend.

An external phone has been installed at the Command Post which will automatically call a control center located at the Confinement Center located at 3500 N. Harlan Drive. The Command Post public reception area is monitored 24 hours a day by video surveillance and can be remotely unlocked when needed. The Command Post can be reached during normal operating hours by calling (812) 421-6201. Calls received after normal operating hours will be automatically routed to a control center located at the Confinement Center.
