DATE: Wednesday, July 23, 2014
SUBJECT: Crash Fatality
RELEASE NUMBER: 2014-NR-063
CONTACT: Lt. Kirk Byram
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at approximately 12:05pm, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident with injuries on the Lloyd Expressway at the University Parkway. While enroute to the scene central dispatch advised one of the vehicles involved, a beige SUV, was the same vehicle referenced in a recent dispatch alert for reckless driving.

Upon arrival deputies found a beige 2009 Pontiac SUV and a 2009 Kenworth Flatbed truck. Witnesses first saw the SUV at the Lloyd Expressway and Red Bank Road when it ran a red light. The SUV continued westbound and ran another red light at the Boehne Camp Road intersection. Just east of the University Parkway intersection the SUV crossed the grass median into the eastbound lane of oncoming traffic. The SUV then struck the flatbed truck as the driver attempted to swerve out of the way. The flatbed truck overturned off the south side of the Lloyd Expressway.

The driver of the SUV, Carolyn Boulds, could not be interviewed at the scene. She was taken to Deaconess Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the flatbed truck was fatally injured in the accident. The name is being withheld at this time until the Coroner’s Office can make a notification to the family.

Sheriff’s Office detectives were called to the scene and the accident is still under investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor at this time.

The accident caused the east-bound lanes of the Lloyd Expressway to be shut down for about 2-1/2 hours.
