SUBJECT: Child Molestation Arrest
RELEASE NUMBER: 2015-NR-034
CONTACT: Lieutenant Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

During the early morning hours of Thursday, June 04, 2015 the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Keystone Subdivision to investigate a report of child molestation. A 12-year-old girl had called 911 while at a sleep-over to report that her friend’s father had molested her.

Once sheriff’s deputies arrived they removed the 12-year-old victim from the home and transported her to her parents. The suspect, Mr. Michael Wayne Jones, was transported to the Sheriff’s Command Post for questioning.

The victim reported to the Sheriff’s Office that she and her friend had been on a couch watching TV around 1:00am in the morning. The victim reported that her friend was asleep when she heard Mr. Jones approach. The victim pretended to be asleep and then felt Mr. Jones touch her breasts multiple times and place his hand inside her shorts. The victim reportedly kicked Mr. Jones hand away and he left the area.

The victim tried to call her parents on her cell phone, but was unable to reach them. The victim then searched the internet for the phrase “What to do if a parent touches you”, but did not find anything. The victim then locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.

During an interview at the command post, Mr. Jones explained that he had woken up around 1:00am and walked downstairs to check on his daughter and her friend. Mr. Jones explained that he covered them up with a blanket and went back upstairs. When confronted with the victim’s assertion that he touched her breasts multiple times, Mr. Jones stated “I did it once”. Mr. Jones then invoked his right to legal counsel.

Mr. Jones was then transported to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center and booked on charges of Child Molestation as a Level 4 Felony.
