On Sunday, January 17, 2016 at approximately 7:51 pm, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Big Cynthiana Road near Schmitt Road upon report a vehicle crash involving entrapment.

On scene investigation and statements later taken from the driver indicated that a white 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Mr. Randall Spencer had been traveling northbound on Big Cynthiana Road before leaving the east side of the roadway and entering an embankment. The vehicle rolled over and subsequently struck a tree, trapping Mr. Spencer inside.

Scott Township Fire Department personnel removed Mr. Spencer from the wrecked vehicle. Mr. Spencer sustained serious internal injuries as a result of the crash and was transported by ambulance to Deaconess Hospital.

The investigating sheriff’s deputy observed that Mr. Spencer appeared intoxicated. Mr. Spencer admitted to drinking excessively prior to driving. An open alcoholic beverage container was found near Mr. Spencer’s vehicle. Preliminary hospital testing revealed Mr. Spencer’s blood alcohol content was nearly three (3) times the legal limit.

The crash remains under investigation.
