The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a USI student from Portage, IN on a felony charge of Dealing Marijuana.  Deputies were called to the apartment 307 in Governor’s Hall at 1700 Rankin Ln to assist in the investigation of the odor of suspected marijuana.  Following an investigation, Orlando Estephan Leonel Gamez, was arrested for Dealing Marijuana O/30 grams Class D Felony.

On Jauary 19th at  2039 hours, deputies with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist USI Security.  They were investigating the odor of what was believed to be marijuana.  The odor was traced to apartment 307 of the residence hall.  Deputies spoke with one of the residents, Gamez, and subsequently obtained a search warrant for the apartment and his vehicle.  60 individual baggies containing suspected marijuana were recovered.  The total field weight of the suspected marijuana was 154 grams.  A ledger containing details of what deputies suspect are drug transactions was also recovered.  Gamez admitted ownership of the suspected marijuana but declined to speak further and invoked his right to counsel.

Gamez was arrested and transported to the Vanderburgh County Detention Center.  He will be held without bond pending a court appearance.
