A phone scam similar to one first reported by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) has once again hit Vanderburgh County.
Potential victims are getting phone calls and recorded messages stating the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will issue arrest warrants for unpaid taxes. Potential victims are told to wire money or provide a pre-paid debit card number to settle the back taxes. The Sheriff’s Office has already received several reports of this type of scam call occurring locally.
