The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested the father of a six month-old infant who was found deceased at his home.
On Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 10:25 AM, Shane Hedrick called 911 to report he had checked in on his son, whom was sleeping in his crib, and found he was dead. Hedrick attempted CPR while EMS and Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the residence, located in northwest Vanderburgh County. Arriving EMS and McCutchanville Volunteer Fire Department personnel took over life-saving measures but were unsuccessful in reviving the infant.
Sheriff’s Office detectives, with the assistance of the Indiana Department of Child Services, began an investigation and interviewed Mr. Hedrick. During the interview, Mr. Hedrick admitted to striking and injuring his son during the early morning hours of Thursday, January 25th and finding the child deceased several hours later. Deputies found the conditions in the home deplorable which included clutter, trash and debris, insect activity, and animal urine and feces.
The father, Shane Hedrick, was arrested transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he will be held without bond until making a court appearance. The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the infant once all the proper notifications have been made to family.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death is ongoing, pending an autopsy and report from the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office, and additional arrests and charges may follow.
