Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Mobile Home Fire

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a person found inside a mobile home following a fire in northern Vanderburgh County.

On February 20, 2025, at 20:52 hours, an off-duty deputy notified dispatch that he had observed smoke coming from a mobile home in Grandin Pointe Mobile Home Park. The Vanderburgh County Fire Department, German Township Fire Department, McCutchanville Fire Department, and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded and found a mobile home on Asbury Drive fully involved in flames.

Neighbors informed responding personnel that someone might be inside the mobile home. Fire department personnel aggressively attacked the fire, making entry in an attempt to rescue the occupant. Despite their best efforts, the occupant was found deceased inside. The victim was transported from the scene to the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning, and the Coroner will release the victim’s name upon positive identification and notification of the family.

Detectives with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and an investigator from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

A second resident was not home at the time of the fire. A dog belonging to the victim was uninjured and is being cared for by a neighbor.
