A contracted jail nurse has been arrested on narcotics-related charges following an investigation at the Vanderburgh County Jail.

On August 07, 2024, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working at the Vanderburgh County Jail, employed by a third-party vendor, came under suspicion by jail staff after she was observed to be disoriented and confused. Based on several jail officer’s observations, they believed that LPN Tracy A. Davis could have possibly been impaired.

Security camera footage was then reviewed, which revealed that Ms. Davis had tampered with and removed Suboxone tablets from their normal location to a location off-camera. Suboxone is a Schedule III narcotic drug. Several errors were found on the entries made by Ms. Davis into the Controlled Substances Log.

On August 15, 2024, Ms. Davis returned to work at the Jail and was interviewed by narcotics detectives. Ms. Davis gave a statement admitting to taking the Suboxone. Subsequently, Ms. Davis was placed under arrest for Theft as a Class A Misdemeanor, and Possession of a Schedule III substance as a Class A Misdemeanor.

Ms. Davis’s security clearance, which allowed her access to the jail, was revoked.

Sheriff Noah Robinson stated, “Our staff was alert, discovered this violation of trust, and quickly took action. Any breach of security is an opportunity to learn and improve our process. We will invest in technology and improved procedures to lessen the chances of such a violation recurring.”
