SUBJECT: Evansville Man Arrested after Fleeing from Traffic Stop
RELEASE NUMBER: 2025-NR-0318
CONTACT: Lt. Matt Schnell
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
On March 18, 2025 at 11:40 AM a sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Street Crimes Unit observed a driver, later identified as Zachary Lee Cox, operating a vehicle near Madison Avenue and Governor Street. The sheriff’s deputy noted that Mr. Cox appeared to be smoking marijuana while driving and exceeding the posted speed limit. Upon initiating a traffic stop, Mr. Cox failed to comply and instead fled at a high rate of speed.
The sheriff’s deputy pursued the vehicle for approximately two to three blocks before losing sight of the suspect and terminating the pursuit. Shortly thereafter, using the FLOCK camera network, detectives obtained crucial information regarding the vehicle’s license plate, make, and model. Within approximately five minutes of the pursuit ending, members of the Evansville Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force successfully located the vehicle and took Mr. Cox into custody without further incident.
Following his arrest, Mr. Cox was evaluated signs of impairment, however, none were detected. He was subsequently transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
The Street Crimes Unit and Evansville Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force are collaborative units consisting of detectives from both the Evansville Police Department and the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
