RELEASE NUMBER: 2020-NR-038
CONTACT: Col. Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff David Wedding
On Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 7:45 PM the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4500 block of Seven Hills Road upon report of shots fired.
A 911 caller reported several shots being fired by a white male driving a white truck that left the area at a high rate of speed. Sheriff’s deputies later observed a vehicle and driver near Springfield Drive and Wimberg Road that matched a more detailed description that was later provided by a witness on Seven Hills Road.
The driver and sole occupant, Mr. Osborne Wright, was stopped, taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff`s Operations Center. A handgun was recovered from his vehicle along with ammunition of the same type as the shell casings recovered from Seven Hills Road. Wright later admitted to stopping on Seven Hills Road, pointing a handgun out the driver’s window and firing three shots into the ground. Wright explained that he fired the shots in order to “relieve stress”.
An investigation revealed no indication that Wright fired the handgun towards a person or structure. No one was injured as a result of Wright’s actions. Wright was arrested for possessing a handgun without a license, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and charged with several traffic infractions.
ARRESTED:
Osborne David Wright, 27, of Evansville. Possession of a Handgun without a License as a Class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon as a Level 6 Felony.
Presumption of Innocence Notice: The fact that a person has been arrested or charged with a crime is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
