SUBJECT: Fugitive Apprehended by Sheriff’s Canine

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Evansville man who had fled from deputies during his November 8th arrest on felony battery charges . On November 8th, deputies were dispatched to an address in the Grandin Pointe neighborhood to investigate an assault. The suspect, Anthony Patrick Jones fought with deputies during this arrest and as he was being escorted to a patrol car for transport, he ran from deputies. Jones was able to evade capture (Reference 2019-NR-054).
Today, deputies assigned to the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force began looking for Jones and as a result of their investigation, went to an address in the 1100 block of South Harlan Avenue. Kane, a Sheriff’s Office canine assigned with his handler to the Marshals Task Force, found Jones hiding under a camper located on the property. Kane was able to pull Jones out from under the camper and he was taken into custody without further incident.
Jones was taken to an area hospital for evaluation for injuries suffered during the initial incident, as well as the dog bite from today’s apprehension. Once he is medically released he will be taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he faces charges including Felony Battery and Resisting Law Enforcement. He will be held without bond pending a court appearance.
