SUBJECT: Motorcyclist Killed in Northwest Vanderburgh County
RELEASE NUMBER: 2019-NR-035
CONTACT: Sgt. Erik Nilssen
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

A motorcyclist was killed this afternoon in Northern Vanderburgh County after a collision with another vehicle. At 3:44 PM today the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, along with emergency medical personnel from the German Township Fire Department and AMR, responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of Fischer Road and Deer Lake Drive.
First responders arrived to the scene to find a black 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe positioned on top of a yellow 2017 Suzuki RMZ450 motorcycle in the roadway. The on scene investigation indicated that the collision occurred as a result of the black Chevrolet Tahoe turning into the path of the motorcycle. The force of the collision resulted in the driver being thrown a considerable distance from the motorcycle.

Despite life-saving measures being attempted by first responders, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was uninjured. Pursuant to Indiana state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe voluntarily submitted to blood and urine analysis by the Indiana Department of Toxicology. The crash will remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office pending the official toxicology analysis and crash reconstruction, although drugs and alcohol are not initially believed to be a factor. The crash resulted in the closure of Fischer Road between Orchard Road and Schenk Road for nearly three hours while first responders worked the scene. The identity of the deceased will be released by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.
