CONTACT: Lieutenant Noah Robinson / Sergeant Kerri Blessinger
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Sunday, October 22, 2017 at approximately 7:40 PM the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a crash at the intersection of West Lloyd Expressway and South Red Bank Rd.

Upon arrival, deputies found a gray 2007 GMC truck overturned in the intersection and a green 2006 Ford Fusion off the roadway. Further investigation revealed that the truck had been traveling east on West Lloyd Expressway under a green light when the Ford Fusion attempted to turn south onto Red Bank Road. A witness confirmed that the turn lane light was red at the time the Ford Fusion entered the intersection.

The driver of the Ford Fusion sustained multiple injuries, to include broken bones. A passenger in the Ford Fusion was severely injured and is undergoing surgery at Deaconess Mid-Town. The driver of the truck was not injured, but two children in the vehicle complained of minor pain and were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The intersection was closed for approximately 2.5 hours. Pursuant to state law regarding crashes involving serious bodily injury or death, the drivers of both vehicles consented to a post-crash blood draw. The crash will remain under investigation pending a crash reconstruction and toxicology results.
