SUBJECT: Sheriff’s Office Breaks Ground on New Operations Center
RELEASE NUMBER: 2016-NR-099
CONTACT: Lt. Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Vanderburgh County Commissioners, Vanderburgh County Council and Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Authority held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sheriff’s Office Operations Center this morning.
The new 10,000 square foot facility is scheduled for completion mid-summer of 2017. When finished, the Operations Center will replace the current Sheriff’s Command Post at 5607 U.S. Highway 41.
Sheriff Wedding explained, “Having the Operations Center on the same campus as the Vanderburgh County Administration Building and Jail will provide several advantages. Both buildings will share information technology infrastructure and provide convenient access to the jail for our patrol deputies and detectives.” Sheriff Wedding added, “An expanded laboratory, larger interview rooms and evidence areas will correct some of the shortcomings of the old building.”
The 1.6 million dollar facility will be owned by the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Authority, which is a more cost effective arrangement than continuing to lease the old Command Post from the Airport Authority.
