The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man wanted on a murder warrant out of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The arrest took place following a traffic stop during which a passenger was arrested under a false name and later identified as being wanted on the murder warrant following an investigation into his identity at the Vanderburgh County Jail.

On September 14, 2016 at approximately 3:40pm, a sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Evannsvile Vanderburgh Joint Drug Task Force (JTF) stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction at S. Linwood Avenue and Adams Avenue. Evansville Police Department investigators with the JTF assisted.

A passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Julius Catlett Jr., was questioned concerning his identity. Catlett told the Sheriff’s Office that his name was Elias Heard. Catlett provided a date of birth and an age. When advised that the age given did not correspond with the date of birth he provided, Catlett provided a second date of birth and then two additional ages for himself. He also was unable to name the friends he advised he was visiting, where he was staying, how he got to Evansville in the first place or the name of either of his parents. Catlett was arrested for False Informing as a Class A Misdemeanor and transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail.

Once Catlett was booked into the jail, he was fingerprinted and the prints were submitted to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). NCIC advised that the prints belonged to Julius Catlett Jr and that he had an active warrant for Murder in Hopkinsville, KY as well as a warrant from the United States Marshals Service.

Authorities in Hopkinsville were contacted and are continuing their investigation into the September 4, 2016 the shooting death of 25-year old Hopkinsville resident Shaun Smith.

Julius Andre Catlett Jr., 27, of Hopkinsville, KY.  Murder (Warrant), USMS Hold (Probation Violation Warrant), False Informing as a Class A Misdemeanor.
