CONTACT: Lt. Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff David Wedding

On Friday, March 11, 2016 at approximately 6:15am the Evansville Police Department responded to the area of I-69 west of S. Green River Road upon report of fatal single vehicle collision. Officers determined that the crash occurred outside the city limits and called for assistance from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

On scene investigation and witness statements indicated that a white 2002 Ford F150 pick-up truck had been traveling northbound on I-69 in the left lane before crossing over to the shoulder and striking a guardrail. The driver of the vehicle was ejected through the passenger window during the crash. The other occupant of the vehicle, the 8-year-old grandchild of the driver, was able to regain control of the truck, apply the brake and bring the vehicle to a stop.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. The driver had buckled the seatbelt, but drove with the lap belt and shoulder restraint behind him.

Northbound I-69 was restricted to one lane for nearly three hours during the investigation and clean-up.
