AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Thursday, January 21, 2016 at approximately 11:10pm the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of I-69 at mile marker 13 south of Boonville New Harmony Road upon report of a head-on collision.

The Evansville Police Department, Scott Township Fire Department and McCutchanville Fire Department responded to the scene along with the Sheriff’s Office. The involved drivers were found trapped inside their vehicles and displayed no signs of life. Neither vehicle was carrying any passengers at the time of the crash.

On scene investigation and witness statements indicated that a black 2009 Dodge Journey van had been traveling south before being struck head on by a red 2014 Ford Taurus sedan, which had been traveling north in the southbound lanes of the interstate.

Approximately one minute prior to the crash the Evansville-Vanderburgh Joint Central Dispatch received a 911 call warning of a wrong way driver on interstate I-69.

The interstate was closed for over two hours for investigation and removal of debris. The Sheriff’s Office and the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate. The Coroner’s Office will release the names of the deceased at a later time.
