The term “active shooter” has become part of every law enforcement officer’s vernacular since the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999. Law enforcement officers are now taught to immediately confront a gunman before he or she can take lives. LASER training is designed to provide deputies and officers with the skills and tactics needed to bring about a conclusion to an armed conflict as quickly as possible.
This course addressed the technical aspects of planning and implementing a rapid law enforcement deployment to an active shooter incident through the use of classroom presentations, hands-on performance-based field training and scenario-based practical exercises. The local Emergency Management Agency provided the use of their facilities.
This training was also designed to teach tactics to area law enforcement trainers that can be taken back to their respective agencies. A highly sought after course, this traveling class is put on year round all across the United States. Sheriff Dave Wedding added “Our thanks to the instructors from NCBRT for allowing our agency to participate. Continued joint training with the Evansville Police Department and our neighboring agencies will help ensure we are prepared to face threats as a team that works together.”
