On August 7, 2025, at approximately 2:14 AM, deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check in the Melody Hills Subdivision, where they located one juvenile and one adult after the pair initially fled from law enforcement. During the course of the investigation, deputies discovered two vehicles that had been broken into. The suspects were not found near the vehicles when deputies first arrived, but after a brief search, both individuals were located. The juvenile admitted to the crimes, while the adult, Helkena Langinbelik, an 18-year-old male from Evansville, refused to cooperate. Langinbelik was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail, while the juvenile, whose name is being withheld, was taken to the Youth Care Center (YCC). Both suspects face charges of theft, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, including reviewing nearby security footage.
